Walking in Their Shoes:
Understanding Dyslexia
A workshop exploring dyslexia beyond reading and spelling, helping educators understand how differences in processing and learning can shape a young person's classroom experience, confidence and engagement with education.

About the workshop
This workshop aims to help educators develop a deeper understanding of dyslexia, exploring how differences in processing, working memory and learning can affect a child's experience in the classroom.
We will consider how dyslexia can influence reading, writing, organisation and everyday learning demands, alongside its potential impact on confidence, self-esteem and emotional wellbeing. Particular attention will be given to understanding the frustration and anxiety that can arise when a student's abilities are not reflected in their academic performance.
The workshop will also explore practical classroom strategies, appropriate adjustments and ways to recognise individual strengths, helping educators create learning environments in which students feel understood and supported.
The content can be adapted for primary or secondary school settings.
Who is it for?
This event can be offered as a whole school INSET training or in organisation looking to better contextualise a current understanding of dyslexia or for those who are first building their understanding.
